Sir Ken Robinson delivers an entertaining and very interesting talk on the role of creativity in schools. Much of what he says here has really struck a chord with me.

As a dedicated learner, I am committed to and very serious about my role as a teacher. I love my job but it often drives me crazy. My intention with this blog is to give people access to the world inhabited by teachers and their students, to vent my many frustrations and furies, and to give everyone with an interest in education an idea of what is really going on in our schools.

This is amazing. It is a truth I believe in- creativity is just as important as literacy. My personal experience is such that without the outlet of creative exploration, children will wither and die. My sisters and I were fortunate enough to experience and grow within the arts, all provided in our school programs. These very same programs are no longer existent in our school system. I have taught high school music ensembles for nearly ten years, and have seen the joys and refuge the arts bring to troubled teens. Through our programs, we saved several students from social misjudgments and failing grades. Shame on the NCLB. Our current view of education being used as an assembly line for a national industrial product is an atrocity against our children. Truly, our humanity is defined by our ability to find beauty in learning and discovery, which complements our intelligence. I'm so glad I bumped into your blog. I plan to share it with as many people as I can. Thank you for bringing this important issue to light...
